Signe Boe

When letters were made from fire

Installation of film, sound and objects

Signe Boe’s artistic practice unfolds in between the
abstract and the literal, the immaterial and the material. In this space, she playfully explores and deconstructs systems and structures that we commonly take for granted – techno-logical, linguistic, religious, societal – in order to forge new connections and meanings. For Boe, language is not only a means of communication, but also a physical material that can be manipulated such that meaning is transposed and transformed.

She works with time-based media such as video, sound and performance, as well as with sculpture, text and graphic arts. She draws upon fields such as archaeology, linguistics, social sciences and theology, and her works often carry –in numerable layers of meaning, temporalities and narratives – some more explicit than others. By linking together vastly different phenomena, the stories told in Boe’s works disrupt linear chronologies and bring unexpected coincidences to light.
